The Masculine Revival Marriage Check-In
This check-in is a very simple, but very powerful way to:
Get reconnected and back on the same page in your marriage.
Break negative momentum from the previous week, and start building positive momentum.
Facilitate honest conversation and know exactly where you stand with each other week to week.
Work through issues, let go of grudges and grievances.
My wife and I use this tool frequently and it has been very helpful for us. I shared it with men in my men’s groups and they have all reported positive results and continue to use it in their own marriages!
I find this tool particularly helpful during periods of disconnection or when things are not feeling 100% in my marriage. It really helps to just cut straight to the heart of things and have the conversation that needs to be had so we can move forward together in a positive way. Use it as you feel the need for it.
How to use it:
Set aside at least 20 Minutes. Sit down together in a space where you won’t be distracted, as this exercise is also a practice in being present with one another. Approach this time with the intention to further know, understand and hear your spouse. Sometimes difficult things to hear can come up during this exercise. That’s OK. Can you breathe, listen for the truth and remain present without getting defensive or reactive? You are doing this to come back into connection, and from time to time you may have to navigate some turbulent waters in order to get there. Make an agreement that you are going to hear each other out to the best of your ability and that if you feel hurt, you aren’t going to go on the offensive. Be honest with your answers to the questions, but approach them with a desire to move forward, not dwell in the past or in blame. Pick a day or time once per week that you can do this regularly as you feel the need for it.
Give it a try, let me know what you think, and if you have any questions about it, let me know!
In your corner,
Brendan
